Novel Solutions Engineering started from a desire to do things better. As an aircraft maintenance engineer B1.3 (mechanical) with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) I constantly saw areas of improvement or efficiency. Being mechanically trained they were usually in the form of a better tool or a fixture to assist in the conduct of work. The benefit could be in safety, consistency of outcomes, or efficiency by multiplying the effectiveness of an individual. I took a role in a department responsible for aircraft and maintenance test and evaluation (T&E). This role is where I gained experience in CAD design, CNC manufacture and additive manufacturing. I worked on instrumentation for gathering aircraft performance data, and developing tooling/ground support equipment to improve the quality of work conducted on the hangar floor. The work brought me great satisfaction, so much so that I decided that I would start a business and offer my skills to all industries not just naval aviation.
